How to get the most out of your Estepona hotel and Spa resort holiday

January 13, 2025

When you book your holiday at the 5-star Estepona hotel and spa resort Las Dunas Health & Spa Hotel (whether you prefer health and fitness holidays, romantic Spa breaks for couples or you just fancy treating yourself) you will expect to be treated like a VIP.  However, you may not realise that there are additional benefits, as the resort is located in Estepona, one of the Costa del Sol’s most charming destinations.

Located on the western flank of the Coast, Estepona is a vibrant, bustling, traditional coastal town.  Edged by superb beaches and the longest promenade in Spain, at its heart is an historic old town, with winding street, white buildings adorned with hundreds of coloured potted flowers, restaurants, bars, independent stores and plazas. Although completely unspoilt and authentic, it is also one of the most modern towns in Malaga province, as it is the first low emission zone in the province and benefitting from huge private and public investment.

Therefore, in addition to the much-deserved pampering at Las Dunas, you also gain access to Estepona’s authentic Spanish charm, beautiful beaches, restaurants, a marina, beach clubs, countryside, golf, horse riding water sports and much more.

To make sure you get the most out of your visit to Estepona and the Las Dunas Health & Spa hotel, here are five of our favourite activities that you may also enjoy.

1. Spa day Estepona

Unsurprisingly, at the top of our list we recommend you make the most out of our wonderful Spa and wellness facilities and swimming pools. Las Dunas has the only 5-star rated day spa in Estepona, offering a carefully considered range of Spa, wellness and beauty treatments, for both men and women. There is also a fully equipped, state-of-the-art gym and the opportunity to take a Yoga class, whilst soaking up the panoramic sea views.

2. Spend a day at the beach

One of the many attractions of holidaying on the Mediterranean coastline is extensive array of high-quality sandy beaches, and Estepona has its fair share. There is something to suit everyone, whether you want to get away from everyone or like a more-lively atmosphere and close proximity to the town. If you are already familiar with the area, you may have your own favourites, if not, we’re happy to share the benefit of our local knowledge.

  • Playa del Cristo

On the western side of the town, just a short walk from the busy marina (where you’ll find shops, restaurants and a weekly market held every Sunday). Playa del Cristo is perfect for families, as it is sheltered and is known for its calm water. It’s also a good spot to watch the sunshine go down.

  • La Rada

A great location running parallel to the town centre, making it super convenient and extremely well equipped. You’ll find everything from showers, water sports, bars and disabled facilities. There is also 3kms of paseo, so it is great for running, cycling or meandering along as you take in the sights and sunshine.

  • Playa de Velerín

If you like peace and quiet and want to get away from the crowds, Playa de Velerin offers a little corner of paradise. Located just a few steps from Las Dunas, to the east of Estepona town centre on the stretch of coast known as the New Golden Mile, Estepona, surrounded by lush plants and trees..

3. Beach clubs

Like its more famous neighbour Marbella, Estepona has some superb beach clubs which entice a cosmopolitan clientele to relax and enjoy the laid-back luxury lifestyle of the Costa del Sol. In addition to iconic long-established names such as the Trocadero, there are several newer venues such as Beso Beach, Nido Estepona and Sublimbeach (with more in the pipeline), that are offering a fresh new experience.

4. Explore and enjoy the outdoors

The majesty of the Mediterranean sea and beaches almost make you forget that Estepona is surrounded by some beautiful countryside, just waiting to be enjoyed. There are many ways you can take advantage of the wonderful weather and the great outdoors, either independently or part of an organised group.

You may wish to explore on two wheels (guests can hire bicycles from Las Dunas). If walking is more to your taste, there are plenty of hiking trails in Estepona and its environs. No matter your level of experience or fitness, there will be a trail for you, from the easy coastal walks along the aforementioned Playa del Cristo, to moderate and harder routes.  You can find lists, reviews and ratings on various websites such as Top Trails. Alternatively, if your preference is for travelling on four legs, you could contact Ranch Siesta Los Rubios to find out about rides around the countryside (for riders of various levels of ability).

5. Golf lessons in Estepona

Estepona is blessed with a good selection of beautifully designed golf courses, many of which also have their own academies, such as the Valle Romano Golf & Resort and the PG Golf & Sports Academy at Atalaya. If you ever wondered what is the enduring appeal of golf and have never played, now could be your chance to find out by taking lessons with a professional player.  No matter whether you are complete amateur or you want to brush up your technique, there are plenty of courses and academies to choose from.
